Feed Your Face:
Deadlines & Deliveries

It’s Friday, we’re crazy busy on a variety of projects and we’re hungry! Thank goodness for restaurants that deliver! Today, our delivery choice was Pickleman’s Gourmet Cafe. Salads, sandwiches, pizza and more are available. Affordable prices, fresh food and fast delivery. Who could ask for more?
Here’s a quick review of what some staff members ordered and the projects that kept us in the office during the lunch hour on this beautiful fall Feed Your Face Friday.
Susan Wade, public relations manager - The Cafe Chop Salad helped my tummy stop rumbling today. The smoked turkey and ham, cheddar cheese, tomatoes and cucumbers on a crisp bed of lettuce were light and satisfying.
The convenience of having lunch delivered was appreciated on this busy day. Projects on my plate include our blog (you’re lookin’ at it!), shooting photos at the ribbon cutting of the Miracle League Field and posting them on the Sports Commission’s blog, notifying the winner of the Be Frank with Us Contest that ended today, organizing a PR advisory committee meeting for next week and sending news releases to media for the upcoming Fresh Grounded Faith Women’s Conference. Later today, I will attend the Meet and Greet session for candidates for director of the Springfield Art Museum. I have a few other things I would like to get done today but I’m thinking that’s not gonna happen!
Jane Rips, partner development manager - I have deadlines to meet for our 2012 Visitors Guide! Thanks to Pickelman’s for delivering. I had the Buffalo Chicken Salad. It was chicken tossed in buffalo sauce, bleu cheese, shredded mozzarella, and tomatoes. Spicy, filling, and delicious!
Sean Dixon, interactive media manager - Writing code that nicely formats our Visitors Guide listings for print (I hope you have your business in there) is a tedious task that works up an appetite. Unfortunately, it also yields little time for a a lunch break. The ability to pick up the phone and have a toasted turkey bacon club sandwich delivered helps keep me going and stay on task. Now, back to work!
Amy Michels, marketing coordinator - Fridays are always the day of deadlines and today is no exception - ad proofs are due for the 2012 Visitors Guide. My mozzarella and provolone cheese sandwich was perfectly melted. With grilled cheese, I must have tomato soup. I love their tomato soup because it is creamy, yet has a kick of spice. The sandwich paired with the soup was a perfect match!
Next time you find yourself too busy to get away for lunch, pick up the phone and call Pickleman’s!

17th Annual Eileen Teahan Memorial Golf Tournament
This philanthropy is on October 2nd at 1:30 at Alvamar Golf Course. The proceeds will benefit the Kaw Valley Center in Lawrence, KS, so it is a great way to give back directly to the local community. The KAW Valley Center helps out a ride range of those in need. The organization aims to enrich the lives of local families and children by behavioral and mental healthcare, medical care, social services, and education opportunities. The KAW Valley Center hopes to give those more opportunities and escape their negative environments. The tournament is also in memory of Eileen Teahan, a former Gamma Phi Beta, who was killed in a car accident during her sophomore year at KU. This tragic loss is a result of a drunk driver driving in the wrong lane with no headlights and hitting the car Eileen was in head on. This event is important to our chapter because it keeps the memory of Eileen Teahan alive while contributing to the community. It is also big family event for the Teahan Family, and they attend the event each year to remember and celebrate Eileen’s life.
-Thanks to the Women of Gamma Phi Beta for this opportunity.
Come eat at Pickleman’s on 818 Massachusetts Street in Lawrence, KS on Tuesday October 4th. A potion of all proceeds goes to the KAW Valley Center
